Outstanding early 20th century University of Michigan wool felt pennant, dated 1902, measuring approximately 33 inches in length. Constructed in deep navy wool with large applied maize felt numerals, this classic full-size collegiate pennant displays beautifully with strong period character and honest age.The bold “1902” date marks one of the most celebrated seasons in Michigan athletic history. In football, the 1902 Wolverines were in the midst of the legendary “Point-a-Minute” era, following their dominant 1901 national championship season under coach Fielding H. Yost. The 1902 team finished 11–0, outscoring opponents 644–12, and helped cement Michigan’s early status as a national powerhouse. That same period laid the foundation for Michigan’s enduring reputation as one of college football’s premier programs.Early dated collegiate pennants from this era are scarce, particularly in full 33-inch size. The wool body and hand-applied felt numerals are consistent with turn-of-the-century manufacture, well before the more commonly encountered 1910s–1920s examples. Condition shows expected age wear including light surface soiling and minor toning, but presents attractively with strong color contrast between navy field and maize numerals.An exceptional and historically significant pre-World War I University of Michigan display piece from one of the program’s most dominant seasons.
