Description
Group of four antique English flow blue porcelain plates by Alfred Meakin, Staffordshire, England, in the Devon pattern. Each plate features a richly saturated cobalt flow blue floral border with scrolling foliate decoration and a scalloped edge, characteristic of Victorian era flow blue tableware. The centers remain largely undecorated, allowing the dramatic halo effect of the flow blue glaze to frame the plates. Undersides bear the Alfred Meakin Ltd crown backstamp reading “Devon” and “England.” Plates measure approximately 7 inches in diameter. Condition shows age-related wear including several rim chips as shown in photographs, consistent with use and age but still displaying beautifully with deep cobalt coloration typical of the pattern.
