Original oil on canvas still life by Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer featuring a tabletop arrangement of eggs, a glass pitcher, a small cup, and a bright lemon beside a draped yellow cloth. The composition is rendered in Shafer’s expressive painterly style, with loose brushwork and rich tonal contrasts between the dark background and the luminous glass and fruit. Reflections in the pitcher and glassware demonstrate careful observation of light, while the eggs and lemon provide a warm focal point against the earthy palette of browns, golds, and greens. From the estate of Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer, a WWII veteran who served with the 13th Armored Division in Italy and later studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. Schafer displayed and sold many of his works for decades through Schafer’s Cleaners in downtown Jackson, a family business operating since 1898, with additional works handled through the Detroit auction house DuMouchelles.
