Description
Original oil on canvas landscape painting by Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer depicting a tranquil river scene illuminated by a dramatic golden sunset sky. Dark silhouetted trees line the bab4323s while warm reflections of yellow and amber light shimmer across the calm water, creating a strong atmospheric effect typical of Shafer’s expressive plein-air influenced style. The composition balances soft distant structures and tree lines with broad painterly brushwork and layered color. Canvas measures approximately 18 x 12 inches and is mounted on a Grumbacher stretcher. From the estate of Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer, a WWII veteran who served in Italy with the 13th Armored Division and later studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. The Shafer family owned Schafer’s Cleaners in downtown Jackson, operating since 1898, where many of his works were displayed and sold during the 1950s–1970s, with additional works handled through the Detroit auction house DuMouchelles.
