Description
Original oil on canvas landscape painting by Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer depicting a rural farmstead scene with clustered buildings, figures working near a clothesline, and warm earth-toned foliage set beneath an open sky. Executed in Shafer’s expressive painterly style with layered brushwork and a subdued palette of browns, ochres, and soft blue sky tones, creating a quiet pastoral atmosphere. Canvas measures approximately 20 x 16 inches. From the estate of Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer, a WWII veteran who served in Italy with the 13th Armored Division and later studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. The Schafer family owned Schafer’s Cleaners in downtown Jackson, operating since 1898, where many of his works were displayed and sold during the 1950s–1970s, with additional works handled through the Detroit auction house DuMouchelles.
