Description

Large 19th century New Historical Atlas of Jackson County Michigan Illustrated compiled and published by Everts & Stewart, Chicago, dated 1874. This substantial county atlas contains numerous hand colored township plat maps identifying landowners, property boundaries, railroads, and roads throughout Jackson County including communities such as Napoleon, Hanover, Spring Arbor, and Jackson City. The volume also includes a large railroad map of the United States, a detailed Michigan map, engraved portrait plates of prominent county residents, and finely executed lithographic views depicting farms, homes, businesses, and civic buildings including the Jackson County Courthouse. Bound in original publisher’s cloth boards with ornate gilt title decoration to the cover. The atlas measures approximately 14.5 x 17.5 inches. Condition shows heavy age related wear including spine separation, edge losses, and loose pages though many maps, portrait plates, and lithographic views remain present. A desirable and historically important Michigan county atlas documenting land ownership, architecture, and regional development during the post Civil War era.
