Lot 311:
Description
Antique American stoneware crock featuring a bold hand-painted cobalt eagle decoration with surrounding cobalt accents on a classic cylindrical form with applied lug handles and rolled rim. The crock is finished in a traditional salt-glazed surface with warm gray-tan tone and an Albany slip glazed interior typical of late 19th century American utilitarian pottery. Measures approximately 10 inches tall and roughly 10 inches across the rim. Surface displays attractive kiln character including speckling, glaze variation, and minor firing marks along with light age related wear consistent with use. A striking example of American decorative stoneware with desirable patriotic eagle motif and strong cobalt decoration appealing to collectors of early American pottery and primitives.
