Description

Attractive 19th century American salt glazed stoneware crock featuring hand painted cobalt tulip decoration in a classic brushed slip floral motif. The vessel displays a straight sided cylindrical form with rolled rim and warm buff salt glaze surface showing natural kiln variation and firing character throughout. The bold cobalt decoration depicts a stylized tulip with trailing leaves, a motif commonly associated with mid to late 19th century American utilitarian stoneware. Interior is finished in a dark Albany slip glaze typical of the period. The crock measures approximately 11 inches tall and about 7 inches across the rim. Surface shows expected glaze variation, minor firing marks, and age appropriate wear consistent with period production. A handsome example of collectible American stoneware displaying desirable cobalt floral decoration and traditional salt glaze texture.
