Description
Early illustrated Western art volume titled Done in the Open: Drawings by Frederic Remington, with introduction and verses by Owen Wister and others, published by P. F. Collier & Son, New York, circa 1902. The work features numerous Remington illustrations depicting Western frontier life including cavalry scenes, Native American subjects, cowboys, horses, and frontier landscapes, along with several full page and double page plates including the well-known image “Caught in the Circle.” The book contains a mix of black and white illustrations and color plates showcasing Remington’s iconic Western imagery and storytelling style. Bound in original illustrated boards featuring a cowboy holding a rifle with Remington’s signature and date 1901 printed on the cover. Measures approximately 11.5 x 16.25 inches. Condition is poor with heavy wear, detached or loose pages, torn binding cloth, and significant edge losses to the covers, though many of the interior plates and illustrations remain present. Despite condition issues, the volume retains strong visual appeal and represents an early publication of Frederic Remington’s celebrated Western artwork.
