Lot 305:
Description
19th century salt-glazed stoneware crock featuring a freehand cobalt spiral and foliate decoration in soft blue tones. The simple yet expressive brushwork stands out against the warm buff stoneware body. The form is straight-sided with applied lug handles and a rolled rim. Interior retains a dark Albany slip glaze. Stands approximately 12.5 inches tall and measures roughly 11.5 inches across the rim. Unmarked example. Surface shows expected kiln freckles, minor glaze drips, and age-related wear consistent with period production. No major cracks observed in the provided images. A solid example of American utilitarian stoneware, offering attractive hand-painted cobalt decoration in a classic 19th century form.
