Description
19th century three-gallon stoneware crock impressed “J.F.C. & Co. / Lyons, N.Y.” and decorated with a bold hand-painted cobalt floral motif and capacity mark “3.” This example features classic Western New York salt-glazed stoneware with a warm buff body and dark Albany slip glazed interior. The decoration is strong and well-centered, exhibiting the rich cobalt color collectors seek from the Lyons pottery tradition. Measures approximately 10 inches tall and roughly 10–11 inches across the rim. Interior shows proper dark slip glaze. Condition: Visible exterior glaze loss and surface wear near the rim as shown, along with typical firing imperfections. No major structural cracks observed in the provided images. A desirable New York State stoneware crock from one of the established Lyons manufacturers, displaying attractive cobalt decoration and clear maker’s stamp.
