Description
Attractive 19th century cobalt decorated American stoneware jug featuring bold brushed blue slip decoration in a classic circular and foliate motif. The form is tall and ovoid with squared spout lip and salt glazed surface showing a warm speckled finish with natural kiln effects. The applied handle is now absent. Measures approximately 18 inches tall and roughly 10 inches across the base. The surface displays desirable firing character including minor kiln pops and glaze variations consistent with period production. Unmarked. A handsome example of traditional American utilitarian stoneware with strong cobalt decoration and appealing salt glaze texture collectors seek.
