Lot 296C:
Description
Antique hand-formed copper oil can featuring a cylindrical body with conical top and long narrow filling spout, likely used as a shop or farm lubricating oil dispenser. The piece shows classic early construction with folded seams, applied spout tube, and a simple wire handle mount on the side. The copper surface displays an attractive aged patina with areas of oxidation and verdigris consistent with age and use. Interior reveals the feed tube extending to the bottom, designed to direct oil through the spout when tilted. Measuring approximately 13 inches tall with an approximately 6.5 inch diameter base, this utilitarian early industrial oiling can makes an appealing primitive tool or workshop display piece.
