Lot 294B:
Description
Antique hand blown aqua glass demijohn or carboy dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, featuring a large globular body with tall tapering neck and applied collar lip. The bottle displays the characteristic light aqua coloration associated with early utilitarian glass and shows visible manufacturing traits including internal bubbles, mold irregularities, and a pontil-type base push-up consistent with period production. Measuring approximately 17 inches tall and about 26 inches in circumference, this large storage vessel would have originally been used for liquids such as wine, cider, vinegar, or spirits and was often kept in wicker or wooden carriers. The piece shows age-related wear and a rough lip as photographed but remains a classic example of early American utilitarian blown glass.
