Description
Antique wall mounted kitchen towel drying rack featuring a decorative hand painted canvas panel with floral and bird motif and extending wooden drying rods. Designed for mounting behind or above a kitchen sib4323, the rack allows dish towels or cloths to be hung for drying on the pivoting wooden rods which extend outward and fold back against the panel when not in use. The piece retains its original printed canvas front with geometric and floral border surrounding a central medallion design and is marked on the reverse “May 7, 1878,” referencing the original patent date for this style of household kitchen rack. Constructed with a wooden frame and hinged rod supports, this example reflects late 19th century Victorian domestic utility combined with decorative printed canvas. Measures approximately 32 1/3 inches wide by 20 1/3 inches tall and approximately 1 3/4 inches deep when closed. Estate condition showing age appropriate wear including edge wear to the canvas, minor frame wear, and discoloration consistent with age.
