Description
Antique brass bed warming pan featuring a round engraved lid with decorative floral and scroll motif vent piercing and a long turned wooden handle. Constructed with a hinged lid allowing the pan to open for filling with hot coals, this traditional household implement was used to warm bedding prior to sleep in the 18th and 19th centuries. The pan displays hand engraved decoration to the lid along with riveted construction and a tapered brass neck transitioning to the wooden handle. Measures approximately 36 inches in overall length with the pan itself approximately 11.5 inches in diameter. Exhibits expected age and use including surface wear, patina, and minor discoloration to the brass consistent with age. A classic early domestic tool and decorative primitive form well suited for display in colonial or early American interiors.
