Collection of nine early 19th century literary and educational volumes including notable works of poetry, philosophy, and instruction. Titles represented include Logic; or, The Right Use of Reason by Isaac Watts (London, 1809); The English Reader by Lindley Murray (York, 1810); Lives of the Most Eminent English Poets Vol. II by Samuel Johnson (New York, 1811); The Poetical Works of David Hitchcock (Boston, 1806); Fingal: An Ancient Epic Poem translated by James Macpherson (London, 1809); The Poetical Works of John Milton (London, Thomas Tegg & Son); Flowers of All Hue, and Without Thorn the Rose (London, Edmund Fry, 1832); Learning to Thib4323 published by the American Sunday-School Union; and an additional volume of early poetry including works by Thomas Campbell. Several volumes contain early ownership inscriptions including Elizabeth Stevens dated November 25, 1813, Frederick Farrand, George Robinson 1835, and Eliza Robinson 1838. Bound in period leather and cloth with typical age-related wear, foxing, and edge losses consistent with early 19th century use. An appealing and historically interesting grouping of early American and British literary works with period family inscriptions.
