Description

Group of antique 19th century religious and theological works including Piety Promoted relating to the Society of Friends (Philadelphia, 1854), The Papal and Hierarchical System Compared with the Religion of the New Testament (London, 1843), The Power of Religion on the Mind by Lindley Murray (York, 1825), Beauties of the Bible by Ezra Sampson (Lansingburgh, 1822), Consolations of Gospel Truth by J. G. Pike (New York, 1824), and other devotional and theological volumes. Several books contain period ownership inscriptions including members of the Farrand family and early 19th century presentation inscriptions, adding historical interest. Bindings show expected age-related wear including rubbing, foxing, edge wear, and some spine damage or detached boards, but the group remains a noteworthy collection of early American and English Christian devotional literature, Quaker writings, and theological works.
