Description
Group of antique religious and devotional books dating primarily to the early and mid-19th century including works such as Remains of Henry Kirke White (Glasgow, 1837), Barbauld’s Hymns in Prose for Children with engraved frontispiece (London, 1819), The Remembrancer for Believers in Jesus and Scriptural Guide to the Unconverted by Philip Thompson (London, 1845), Select Remains of Rev. John Mason (London, 1840), Liturgy and Hymns for Sunday Schools issued by the Protestant Episcopal Society (New York, 1858), and additional hymnals, prayer manuals, and devotional texts. Several volumes contain period ownership inscriptions including members of the Farrand family and other 19th century gift inscriptions, along with Methodist Episcopal quarterly membership tickets dated 1851 and 1856. Books show typical age-related wear including foxing, edge wear, and some spine and binding damage but remain an interesting collection of early devotional literature, hymnals, and theological works.
