Description

Group of eight antique late 18th and 19th century literary volumes including The Works of Virgil translated into English prose (Edinburgh, 1791), Waverley; or, ’Tis Sixty Years Since, Vol. II (New York, 1815), Essays Moral, Economical and Political by Francis Bacon (Boston, 1828), The Adventures of Gil Blas of Santillane, Vol. II translated by T. Smollett (New York, 1827), The Life of William Penn with Reflections and Maxims by Bourne Hall Draper (London, Darton & Son), A Memoir of Edward Foster Brady (London, Harvey & Darton, 1839), a decorative single-volume edition of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Walter J. Black Inc., New York), and additional period literature examples. Several volumes retain early ownership inscriptions including Fred Farrand and Geo. Robinson dated June 13, 1810, suggesting early 19th century provenance and family ownership. Bindings include leather and cloth examples with typical wear, foxing, page toning, and edge losses consistent with age and use, forming an attractive group of classic literature, philosophy, and early printing spanning roughly 1791–1839 with a later Shakespeare edition included.
