Substantial lot of thirteen antique 19th century books including A Brief Historical and Descriptive Account of Maidstone and Its Environs (Maidstone, 1834), Piety Promoted in a Collection of Dying Sayings of Many of the People Called Quakers edited by William and Thomas Evans, Volume I (Philadelphia, 1854), Stoddard’s Complete Arithmetic by John F. Stoddard (New York, Sheldon & Company), New History of Great Britain by Rev. John Adams (London, 1803), Book of Meetings of the Society of Friends in America (New York, 1869), Child’s History of England by Charles Dickens (New York, Harper & Brothers, 1858), and two volumes of Child’s History of the United States by John Bonner (New York, Harper & Brothers, 1856–1857), along with additional early leather bound and cloth volumes. Several books contain period ownership inscriptions including Frederick Farrand and William P. Farrand of Jackson County, Michigan, adding local historical interest. Bindings vary between leather, cloth, and paper boards and show expected age including foxing, wear, edge loss, and binding fatigue as photographed. An appealing and diverse shelf lot of early American, English, educational, and religious literature.
