Description
Mid-19th century pocket devotional edition of The Rise and Progress of Religion in the Soul by Philip Doddridge, bound in period paper boards with cloth spine and measuring approximately 5.5 × 3.25 inches. The volume retains its printed contents and devotional text and shows typical age-related wear, toning, and staining to pages and covers. Notably housed inside the book is a small printed 36-star American flag, corresponding to the Nevada statehood flag period of circa 1865–1867, likely placed within the book during the Civil War era. The flag appears to be a period patriotic printed textile or paper example used as a bookmark or keepsake. An appealing Civil War period devotional book accompanied by an early United States 36-star flag ephemera piece.
