Lot 211:
Description
Chinese carved wood figural group depicting a bearded scholar riding a horse accompanied by attendants, likely representing a traditional longevity or scholarly return motif common in late Qing to early Republic decorative carvings. The composition shows the elder seated upon the horse with two youthful attendants at either side, all standing on a tiered carved plinth base with lotus petal border decoration. The underside features a fully carved seal-script style inscription panel cut into the base, appearing as a maker’s or workshop seal rather than a later applied mark. The carving measures approximately 4.5 inches tall with a base about 2 by 2.125 inches per tag. Surface displays a warm polished patina with visible age-related shrib4323age cracks and separation through the base and platform, consistent with natural movement of the wood over time. A detailed small-scale Chinese figural carving with decorative presence and notable carved seal base.
