Description

Chinese export blue and white porcelain rice bowl accompanied by a matching porcelain spoon, dating to the late Qing Dynasty or early 20th century, circa 1890–1910. The bowl is hand decorated in underglaze cobalt with a traditional riverside landscape featuring pagodas, bridges, and stylized foliage, a motif widely produced for export markets during the turn of the century. The interior features a simple brush mark beneath the glaze while the exterior decoration shows the characteristic slight cobalt bleed associated with hand painted underglaze decoration. The bowl retains a neatly cut foot rim with light kiln grit and age consistent wear. The accompanying porcelain spoon carries matching decoration and form typical of Chinese export dining wares intended for rice or soup service. Bowl measures approximately 5.75 inches in diameter and about 2.75 inches in height; spoon approximately 6 inches in length. A good example of turn-of-the-century Chinese export porcelain tableware.
