Description
Mid-19th century leather bound Holy Bible published by the American Bible Society, New York, dated 1851, containing the Old and New Testaments translated out of the original tongues and diligently compared and revised. The volume is bound in period full leather with gilt titled spine reading “Holy Bible, ” with decorative gilt bands and textured boards. Interior title page clearly states the 1851 publication date with additional early handwritten inscription to the front endpaper. The text block shows age toning, foxing, and light staining consistent with age and use, while the binding displays surface wear and rubbing to the spine and edges. A substantial mid-19th century American Bible Society printing, representative of the widely distributed Bibles produced for religious and family use during the period and desirable to collectors of early American religious books and historical printed works.
