Description
Framed mid-19th century engraving titled The Queen’s Palace from St. James’s Park, engraved for the New York Albion and dated January 1, 1840, depicting Buckingham Palace and the surrounding park with figures strolling along the water’s edge and swans in the foreground. The print is presented in a gilt wood frame measuring approximately 20.5 by 15 inches with visible age and wear to the frame consistent with its age. The reverse retains a partial period label for S. Underwood (late Parker & Co.), No. 186 Fulton Street, New York, identified as a plain and ornamental looking-glass and picture frame manufacturer, which helps confirm a 19th century framing. The engraving shows toning, scattered spotting, and typical age wear but remains a decorative and historically interesting early American published view of Buckingham Palace from St. James’s Park.
