Antique leather bound copy of Life of William Allen, With Selections from His Correspondence, Volume I, published in Philadelphia by Henry Longstreth, 347 Market Street, dated 1847. This 19th century biography chronicles the life and writings of William Allen (1770–1843), the prominent Quaker abolitionist, philanthropist, and social reformer who served as Lord Mayor of London and was deeply involved in early movements for the abolition of slavery and humanitarian reform. The work includes selections from Allen’s personal correspondence, providing insight into his role within the Society of Friends and his influence in transatlantic reform movements during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The volume is bound in period brown leather with a black spine label titled “Life of William Allen” in gilt lettering, presenting a classic early American binding style.
