Description

Offered here is a striking early 20th century Art Nouveau silverplate water pitcher, pattern number 3030, bearing the JHC maker’s mark to the underside. This handsome example features a deeply hand-hammered body of subtly faceted form, lending architectural presence and light-reflective texture throughout. The upper register is adorned with applied Art Nouveau floral garlands framed by scrolling borders, while the lower edge carries complementary repoussé scrollwork. The elegantly shaped spout and angular hammered handle further enhance the organic yet structural aesthetic so characteristic of the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau periods. The underside bears a JHC hallmark flab4323ed by crossed tools and stamped pattern number “3030.” The piece retains its original silverplate surface with attractive age-related patina and oxidation consistent with honest use. No evidence of monogram removal is present; the cartouche area remains blab4323. Measuring approximately 8 inches in height (per tag), 9.25 inches across including handle and spout, and 4.5 inches at the base footprint, this is a substantial and display-worthy example of early American decorative silverplate hollowware. An excellent addition for collectors of Art Nouveau metalwork, Arts & Crafts décor, or period table service. The hammered finish and applied ornamentation make this an especially decorative shelf or sideboard piece.
