Lot 1:
Description
Offered here is a handsome pair of early 20th century Oxxford Clothes wooden store display advertising frames. Each frame features rich quarter-sawn oak construction with a deep inset display opening, surrounded by a carved and applied scalloped border molding. The lower rail of each frame is gilt-lettered “Oxxford Clothes” in period Gothic-style script, retaining strong original gold surface against the warm oak finish. These frames would have been used in a high-end men’s clothing store to display product cards, fabric samples, or promotional inserts for Oxxford Clothes — one of America’s premier tailored clothing makers founded in Chicago in 1916 and known for its luxury menswear. The oak shows beautiful grain and age-appropriate patina throughout. One example exhibits more pronounced surface wear and finish loss consistent with long-term retail use, while the other retains a stronger, more even surface. Both display honestly and authentically, with expected scuffs, minor edge wear, and light handling marks commensurate with age. Each measures approximately 11.75” x 9” x 1” as noted.
