Description

Pair of early to mid 19th century cane handles including one finely carved ivory handle mounted with a decorative sterling silver overlay featuring flowing foliate and scroll motifs, the terminal cap marked “STERLING, ” and a second handle crafted from burl wood with naturalistic form and applied silver inlay accents at the pommel. The ivory example displays a warm aged patina and retains its ornate silver mounting which wraps the grip and cap, while the burl wood example is carved to resemble a natural branch or root form with textured knots and organic contours. Both pieces represent attractive examples of early 19th century walking stick or cane furniture, showing the period’s taste for naturalistic carving and decorative silverwork. These handles were likely once mounted to full canes and are now offered as collectible early cane components suitable for restoration, display, or incorporation into period walking sticks.
