Description
Original oil on canvas architectural study by Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer depicting a domed historic structure rendered in loose expressive brushwork and warm reddish tones against a pale sky. The composition appears to capture the early underpainting or study phase of a larger architectural scene, emphasizing form, mass, and structure through gestural line and tonal blocking. Canvas measures approximately 20 x 24 inches and is mounted on a Grumbacher New York stretcher. This work comes from the estate of Jackson, Michigan artist Henry Schafer, whose paintings were displayed and sold for many years through the family business, Schafer’s Cleaners, a downtown Jackson establishment operating since 1898, and whose works were also handled through the Detroit auction house DuMouchelles.
