Lot 316:
Description
Antique American salt-glazed stoneware churn with hand-painted cobalt tulip decoration and impressed “4” capacity mark to the shoulder. The vessel features applied lug handles, classic tall churn form, and includes its original wooden lid and dasher assembly. The interior is glazed in dark Albany slip typical of mid-19th century utilitarian stoneware. The churn measures approximately 16 inches tall without the dasher and retains attractive cobalt decoration to the front. Condition shows expected age and use including rim wear and minor chipping along the lip, with typical surface wear to the wood components, but overall presents as a solid and highly decorative example of early American stoneware churn with original wooden elements.
