Lot 307:
Description
Attractive 19th century American salt glazed stoneware jug featuring hand painted cobalt floral decoration with stylized slip brushed motif. The vessel displays a classic ovoid form with applied strap handle and narrow spout neck, finished in warm speckled salt glaze with natural firing character across the surface. The decoration centers on a bold cobalt floral design with trailing line accent, a form and motif commonly associated with American utilitarian pottery of the mid to late 19th century. The jug measures approximately 12 inches tall and about 8 inches across the body. Surface shows expected kiln marks and glaze variation consistent with period production. A handsome example of collectible American stoneware displaying strong cobalt decoration and pleasing salt glaze texture.
