Description
Large illustrated volume titled The American Soldier in the Civil War featuring extensive engraved illustrations and historical accounts of the American Civil War, including battle scenes, military encampments, soldiers in camp, naval vessels, and portraits of prominent figures such as Jefferson Davis. The work includes detailed narrative sections describing engagements of the war along with chronological summaries of battles and casualties compiled from official records. Bound in original brown leather with ornate embossed decoration and gilt title to the cover reading “The American Soldier in the Civil War.” Numerous full page engravings depict notable events including scenes related to Fort Sumter, troop movements, battlefield activity, and military leadership. Measures approximately 12 x 17 inches when closed. Condition is poor with heavy wear to the binding including detached and loose sections, torn pages, and edge losses, though many of the illustrated plates remain present. Despite condition issues, the volume retains strong visual Civil War imagery and historical content, making it a compelling example of late 19th century illustrated Civil War history.
