Lot 306:
Description
Attractive 19th century American salt glazed stoneware crock featuring bold hand painted cobalt decoration displaying a stylized “3” motif indicating three gallon capacity. The vessel is cylindrical in form with thick rolled rim and applied lug handles at the sides, finished in classic Albany slip interior glaze with natural kiln firing character. The surface displays desirable speckled salt glaze texture with minor firing marks consistent with period production. Measures approximately 10 inches tall and roughly 9 inches across the rim. A strong example of utilitarian American stoneware with the crisp cobalt decoration collectors seek.
