Description
Impressive 19th century 6 gallon salt-glazed stoneware butter churn standing approximately 18 inches tall, featuring bold hand-painted cobalt floral decoration with stylized tulip and leaf motifs. The deep blue decoration contrasts beautifully against the warm buff body, accented by natural kiln shading and firing variation. The form is tall and slightly tapered with applied lug handles and a rolled rim. Interior retains a rich, dark Albany slip glaze. The decoration is strong and visually balanced, with expressive brushwork typical of quality American stoneware production. Unmarked example. Base shows normal wear consistent with age. Minor surface imperfections and firing marks as expected; no major structural cracks observed in the provided images.
