Lot 303B:
Description
Antique advertising stoneware jug bearing the cobalt stamped oval mark “Heames Detroit, ” featuring a classic two tone glaze with cream colored body and dark Albany slip glazed shoulder and spout. The form is a traditional late 19th to early 20th century stoneware whiskey or storage jug with applied strap handle and narrow pouring mouth. The body displays a fine crazed glaze surface consistent with period production, while the dark glazed top shows typical firing wear and minor edge chipping around the lip. The jug measures approximately 10.75 inches tall and about 7 inches across the base. Surface shows age appropriate wear including glaze crazing, light staining, and small chips along the lower edge consistent with use. A desirable Detroit advertising stoneware example that displays well and represents a classic Midwestern merchant marked jug.
