Lot 286:
Description
Antique cast iron beehive form string holder or twine dispenser commonly found in general stores and butcher shops during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The domed ribbed “beehive” body sits on a fluted base and retains the removable interior iron plate that originally held a ball of twine, allowing the string to feed through the small hole at the top for cutting and dispensing. These countertop dispensers were widely used in mercantile settings for wrapping parcels and goods. Measures approximately 6.5 inches tall by 5 inches across the base. Estate condition showing surface oxidation, rust, and wear consistent with age and use.
