Description
Original 19th century illustrated broadside titled “Forms and Ceremonies of the Coronation” commemorating the coronation of Queen Victoria held June 28, 1838. This large engraved sheet includes detailed printed descriptions of the ceremony along with several illustrations including an interior view of Westminster Abbey during the coronation service, a portrait of Queen Victoria labeled “Our Gracious Queen Victoria, ” and a large architectural view of the Palace of Westminster along the River Thames with boats and figures. The lower section notes London printing by J. H. Paul, 6 Monmouth Court, Seven Dials with publication also credited to Pitts and Hillitt & Martin. Such broadsides were produced as popular commemorative prints celebrating the young queen’s accession to the throne and were widely sold to the public at the time. Measures approximately 19.5 x 29.5 inches. Estate fresh example showing fold lines from original distribution, toning, scattered staining, and edge wear consistent with age.
