Lot 262:
Description
Collection of three large-format 19th century religious reference and theological works including A Complete Concordance to the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament by Alexander Cruden (New York: Dodd, Mead & Co., 1879), Testimony of the Ages: Confirmations of the Scriptures from Modern Science and Recent Discoveries by Herbert W. Morris, D.D., illustrated (Philadelphia: Bradley, Garretson & Co.), and State Churches and the Kingdom of Christ by John Allen (London, 1853). The volumes feature period cloth and decorative bindings with gilt titles and include typical age-related wear, foxing, and edge rubbing consistent with use. Several volumes bear period ownership inscriptions including Frederick Farrand with Christmas presentation inscriptions dated 1880 and 1887, adding a personal historical association. A solid group of Victorian-era biblical reference and apologetic literature reflecting 19th century Protestant scholarship and devotional study.
