Group of six antique 19th century books including An Epitome of the History of the World from the Creation to the Advent of the Messiah by John Hoyland, Volumes I and II (York, 1814), Universal Pronouncing Gazetteer by Thomas Baldwin (Philadelphia, 1845) with folding hand-colored map of the United States, History of the Earth and Animated Nature by Oliver Goldsmith (Edinburgh, Thomas Nelson & Peter Brown, 1837) illustrated with engraved plates of animals and reptiles, and two volumes of Life of Sir Walter Scott (Edinburgh, Robert Cadell / London, John Murray and Whitaker & Co.). Volumes are bound in period leather and cloth bindings with gilt or paper spine labels and exhibit expected age including foxing, staining, worn boards, binding fatigue, and water exposure to some volumes as shown. A decorative and historically interesting shelf group of early 19th century literature, theology, natural history, and geographical reference works.
