Description

Group of seven early to mid-19th century leather bound books including literary, philosophical, and religious works, highlighted by The Works of Robert Burns (Philadelphia: J. Crissy & J. Grigg, 1831) with engraved frontispiece, The Conduct of the Understanding by John Locke (London, 1802) with portrait engraving, The Adventures of Gil Blas of Santillane translated by T. Smollett (New York, 1827), Journal of the Life of Joseph Hoag (London, 1862), and The Life of Abraham Newland, Esq., Late Principal Cashier at the Bab4323 of England (London, 1808) with engraved portrait, along with additional early volumes including works associated with Edward Bulwer-Lytton titles such as Devereux and related popular literature of the period. Books are bound in period leather or cloth with gilt titles and decorative tooling, showing typical age-related wear including rubbed boards, worn spines, foxing, and occasional loose or detached elements, but retaining strong shelf presence. An attractive decorative grouping of antique volumes spanning literature, philosophy, economics, and religious biography dating roughly from 1802 to 1862.
