Description

Early 19th century printed poetry volume titled Fragments, measuring approximately 9 x 5.5 x .25 inches, bound in original plain paper boards with exposed sewn binding. The book contains a collection of sentimental and romantic poems including titles such as “Friendship is the Wine of Life, ” “Melancholy, ” “Song, ” “Sonnet to the Nightingale, ” and “The Tear, ” along with poems referencing the Battle of Waterloo and other reflective themes common to early 19th century literary works. The volume retains its original binding and shows expected wear from age and use with scattered staining, edge losses, and loosened gatherings as shown. Period pencil inscriptions appear within the book including a handwritten note reading “W. wrote this story, ” along with an ownership inscription on the cover that appears to read “J. W. Robinson.” A scarce early American poetry publication preserved in its original binding and likely associated with the Robinson family of Hudson, New York, offering both literary and regional historical interest.
