Description

Late 19th to early 20th century manuscript diary titled “Theological Common Place Book, ” a large leather-bound volume measuring approximately 10.5 x 8.5 x 1 inches and filled with extensive handwritten entries dating roughly from 1891 through 1905. The book appears to have been used as both a minister’s working journal and theological reference, containing detailed daily entries describing preaching engagements, pastoral visits, church services, funerals, meetings, and personal reflections. Numerous entries reference activities such as “Regular services with preaching, ” “visiting among parishioners, ” “reading and studying, ” and other ministerial duties, suggesting the book belonged to an active clergyman documenting parish life and routine pastoral work over many years. The volume retains its original leather spine and cloth boards with gilt title “Theological Common Place Book, ” and includes hundreds of pages of handwritten notes and diary-style entries in period ib4323. Condition shows expected wear including rubbing to the spine, edge wear, toning to pages, and scattered inserted notes and ephemera, but the manuscript remains a substantial and historically interesting record of late 19th century religious life and clerical practice.
