Lot 220:
Description
Group of four mid-19th century cased portrait photographs including daguerreotype, ambrotype and tintype examples housed in period thermoplastic and leatherette cases. Portraits depict well dressed Victorian era gentlemen including one seated portrait, one man wearing a bowler hat, and two studio portraits of young men. Images retain original brass mats and velvet lined interiors within decorative hinged cases. Cases exhibit embossed Victorian designs typical of the 1850s–1870s period. Sizes range approximately from 2.5 x 2.75 inches to 3.25 x 3.75 inches. Condition shows expected age wear including case edge wear, minor image spotting and light surface marks consistent with early photographic processes.
