Description
1965 Canadian commemorative silver dollar honoring British wartime prime minister Winston Churchill, the first Canadian coinage to portray a non-royal individual. The obverse features the right-facing portrait of Churchill with the inscription “WINSTON CHURCHILL, ” while the reverse bears the traditional Canadian dollar design with Queen Elizabeth II and the Latin legend “ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA.” Struck by the Royal Canadian Mint in .800 fine silver, this issue was released shortly after Churchill’s death and remains a popular historical commemorative lib4323ing Canada to one of the most influential leaders of the Second World War. The example shown displays moderate circulation wear with scattered contact marks and light toning while retaining clear design details. Approximate weight 28.51 grams as shown on the scale.
