Description
Antique early 19th-century volume titled The Mythological Astronomy of the Ancients Demonstrated, by Restoring to their Fables & Symbols their Original Meanings by Sampson Arnold Mackey, published in Norwich by R. Walker near the Duke’s Palace in 1824, being the Second Edition. This small leather-bound scientific and philosophical work explores early interpretations of astronomy through mythology and symbolic tradition, and contains engraved diagrams and plates illustrating celestial systems and astronomical concepts. The book measures approximately 7 x 4.5 x 1.5 inches and retains its original period leather binding with titled spine reading “Mackey’s Astronomy.” Interior pages display age toning and foxing consistent with age, along with an early ownership signature “Fredk Farrand” to the front endpaper and additional period pencil notations. A scarce early 19th-century work blending astronomy, mythology, and symbolic interpretation, offering appealing antique character and historical interest.
