Description
Large folio 1827 “A New General Atlas, Comprising a Complete Set of Maps, Representing the Grand Divisions of the Globe” compiled from the best authorities and published in Philadelphia by Anthony Finley, housed in its original marbled boards with red leather spine and corners, measuring approximately 13.75 x 11 inches; the atlas contains numerous engraved maps including United States and world regions as listed in the index and retains its decorative title page dated 1827 along with period inscriptions including the name Frederick Farrand, presenting an early American school atlas typical of Finley’s well-regarded cartographic work of the early 19th century, with visible age, foxing, edge wear to the boards, and general signs of use consistent with an antique atlas of this period yet remaining a desirable example for collectors of early American cartography.
