Lot 20:
Description
Original A Portfolio of Photographic Views of the World’s Columbian Exposition, published by The Jewell N. Halligan Company, Chicago, 1893. This large 16" x 11" pictorial work documents the famed Chicago World’s Fair with richly printed photographic plates and descriptive text. The illustrated cover, featuring bold period typography and advertising for Banner Soap, is present but detached and shows edge tears and losses consistent with age. Interior pages contain striking architectural and exhibition views, including government buildings and grand exposition halls, offering a remarkable visual record of America’s Gilded Age achievement. An increasingly desirable survivor from the legendary 1893 exposition — ideal for collectors of World’s Fair memorabilia, Chicago history, or 19th-century photography.
