Lot 5:
Description
Offered here is an antique pair of French Lemaire Paris opera binoculars, complete with their original leather carrying case. The eyepiece is clearly marked “Lemaire Fabt Paris, ” identifying the respected French optical maker active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These elegant field glasses feature black enamel and leather-wrapped barrels with brass accents and central focus adjustment. The binoculars measure approximately 6.5” x 5” x 2.3” as noted. They retain attractive original finish with honest age-related wear, minor scuffs, and light edge loss consistent with period use. The leather covering remains intact and presents well. The original fitted leather case accompanies the binoculars, showing heavy but authentic age wear including surface cracking, scuffing, and strap deterioration. The case remains structurally intact and adds desirable originality to the set. These binoculars would have been suitable for opera, theater, sporting events, or travel — a fine example of early French optical craftsmanship.
